What’s going on? January 2015 news

New name for news and views. The above picture is not what Manchester is currently like but am expecting it next few days..

A Means to an End

Did our first gig of the year last week at Jam Street, Whalley Range. Excellent gig and one which see us retire certain pieces that the band have been doing for a bit. Our next rehearsal should see us carry on work with several new pieces, two of which will feature me on Keyboards and if all goes to plan, a new one featuring the three of us on vocals etc. More gigs will be announced shortly.

Ocean in a Bottle

Just sorting out the track listing for February’s EP ‘Homage to Brian Eno’ which reflects some very synth based material in homage to the great man himself. This shall be out 1st February 2015.

I am moving shortly, and to keep the flow going have been working hard on the March EP also called ‘Flight of the Phoenix II’ which I will have out 1st March 2015.

After that, there certainly will be a Flight of the Phoenix III and maybe Flight of the Phoenix IV as I have lots of great new material in this style and I am playing around with some lovely droney piano material which reminds me of Harold Budd which will follow maybe early Spring.

Current EP Flight of the Phoenix is here for free download

Audio Poesis:

An EP of old recordings will be out fairly soon and a new EP featuring half a dozen brand pieces will be out I guess in April (Awaiting for approval on the last track) and after that we shall start on a album.

Our first single is here for free download

Poetry:

My last poem was recently blogged here and has had some great reviews. I can’t make the night I normally go in February so likely will pop up somewhere else just for a change. I will be announcing a major project shortly and also the release date for my long delayed second solo collection ‘The End of Summer’.

Writers of the third kind:

After missing two months owning to ill health and been too busy, hoping to be back to normal in February. Will advise when I have doublechecked diary.

More to follow.

Hope you are all well.

Angel Meadow Documentary

According to Wikipedia ‘Angel Meadow’ is a public park to the immediate northeast of Manchester city centre, in North West England. Located on a slope between the River Irk and Rochdale Road occupies an area of 7.4 acres (3 ha), but features in the formative history of Manchester. It was once an affluent suburb of Manchester, until the 19th-century Industrial Revolution altered the social standing of the area and introduced poverty and disease. Regeneration of the park in the 2000s has however modified the area and created a gateway into the Irk Valley.

i used to work for the co-operative just around the corner from here from 2006 to 2011, and it wasn't until just before i left there that i found out about Angel Meadow through the writing of a old poem 'Detective Novel' (http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=8852). It's always a topic I've wanted to write about in a poem - perhaps someday I will but this little documentary is well worth watching (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKch1hiHmq8) as with the Peterloo Massacre, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterloo_Massacre) this wasn't that far back in history and it should never be forgotten in how bad conditions people had to live in not that long ago.
